SOLAR PANEL RECYCLING

Solar Panel Waste

While known for being a renewable source of energy, solar panels pose a threat to the environment once they have reached the end of their lifespan. By 2050, solar panels will constitute 78 million tonnes of waste, which is enough material to produce 2 billion new solar panels.

Solar panels have a roughly 25-year lifespan but can often fail prematurely due to a myriad of causes.

Natural Disasters

Causes

Water Damage

Hail Damage

Falling Debris

Hazardous Materials

The high concentration of lead in solar panels constitutes them as hazardous waste. Lead is useful in the electrical circuitry of solar panels but can be an extreme health danger to children and adults. If not properly managed, lead from waste can make its way into the environment.

Harmful Effects of Lead

!

  • Impaired growth in children

  • Damage to a child’s nervous system for pregnant women

  • Increased risk of miscarriage

  • Cardiovascular and kidney damage in adults

Green Processing

Verdant solely uses green processing techniques to ensure that our solar panels are recycled using methodologies that will not harm the environment. Unlike other solar panel recycling processes, Verdant recycles the entire solar panel so that no resource goes to waste.
